“Found Objects” is an ongoing series of work that examines the intersections of the natural and man-made worlds by looking, in extreme detail, at a variety of organic objects discovered by chance in primarily urban environments. All of these objects were found completely ‘as-is’, in a state of having been colored by incidental applications of spray paints (ie. I did not color any of the objects myself). High-resolution scans of each of the objects are made initially, followed only by the digital removal of background elements such as shadows caused by scanner light illumination, dust and dirt particles on the scanner bed, etc. Aesthetic considerations are largely of secondary concern, as this series of images also aims to serve as a metaphor for the larger and more serious human impact, and consequently detrimental transformations, of the natural environment from the use of synthetic materials, processes, and other man-made causes.
